Today is the last day of Navaratri – Day of Victory, Vijaya Dashami –

Victory of good over evil.

 

Shall we begin the Bhagavad Gita on this auspicious day..

From a clear knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita all the goals of human existence become fulfilled. Bhagavad Gita is the manifest quintessence of all the teachings of the Vedic scriptures – Adi Shankaracharya.

Chapter 1. Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra

sloka 1
” dhrtarastra uvaca
dharma-ksetre kuru-ksetre
samaveta yuyutsavah
mamakah pandavas caiva
kim akurvata sanjaya “

Translation: Dhrtarastra said, O Sanjaya, after assembling in the place of pilgrimage at Kuruksetra, what did my sons and the sons of Pandu do, being desirous to fight?

Sloka 2

” sanjaya uvaca
drstva tu pandavanikam
vyudham duryodhanas tada
acaryam upasangamya
raja vacanam abravit “

Translation:

Sanjaya said: At the time king Duryodhana after seeing the army of the pandavas arranged in military phalanx approaching near his respected preceptor Dronacarya spoke these words.
