Significance of Pooja

In Celebrations and Festivals on 02/10/2011 at 00:49

Pooja is formed by the combination of 2 words : “Po” and “Ja”. “Po” means “poornatha” (fullness) “ja” means “born out of”. That which is born out of fullness is pooja.

When our consciousness becomes so full and in that state when we do an action, that is known as pooja. When heart is full and we are overwhelmed and any action is done out of that overwhelming state, that is known as pooja.

Imitating all that God is doing to us is pooja.

God has given us crops and grains, so we offer rice. God has given us water and we offer water.  Perfumes have been given and we offer perfumes. Fruits have been put on trees for us and we offer fruits.

He is doing our ārati by Sun and Moon everyday going around us. So we light a lamp and imitate that ārati. God is worshipping us everyday. We imitate all that in Pooja. Honouring from the heart, which is full, is known as pooja.

The end of the pooja ritual is known as ārati. What does “ārati” mean? It means complete happiness, ‘Rati’ means joy, Ārati means complete joy, that happiness which does not have sadness as its tail and that happiness which is complete in. How is ārati done? A lamp is lit and taken round God in all the four directions.

What does this lamp signify? It signifies that, life is like a ‘light’, In whatever manner you tilt the fire, its direction is always upward. Similarly life’s direction too should always be upward and where should it move around? It should always move around the divine. This is known as ārati.

Next is “mantra pushpa”. Purification of the mind is done by the mantra and the mind blossoms like a flower and that blossomed mind is offered to the divine. By performing ārati mind blossoms and becomes like a flower.

the Song of Brilliance – Bhagavad Gita 1

In Bhagavad Gita on 15/09/2011 at 14:00

The universe is a brilliant expression of consciousness.

Everything here you see is nothing but an expression of consciousness, in its brilliance.   And the purpose of every created object is to remind you that the consciousness which has created this, which is the base of its existence,  is the most brilliant.

Bharath is the brilliance.  Mahabharath means the greatest of brilliance.  The great brilliance has a song to it, has a rhythm to it.  And that is gita.

Gita means song, song divine.

Now, when there is a war, you cannot sing.  War simply means disharmony, music means harmony.

In a warfield knowledge is so far away.

The brilliance, that is where it is the most necessary, when there is war wisdom is most essential.  And bringing wisdom not in a palace but amidst war is the brilliance of the divinity.

guru tattva

In Knowledge digest on 14/09/2011 at 16:15

“Guru is a tattva — an element, a quality inside you. It is not limited to a body or form. Guru comes in your life in spite of your refusing or being rebellious. The guru principle is so vital in life. There is an element of the guru in every human being. That wisdom in each has to be invoked, awakened. When this element is awakened, misery in life disappears. In our consciousness, wisdom comes to life when guru tattva comes to life. When we have no desires of our own, then the guru tattva dawns in our life. Wake up and see that our life is changing every moment and feel grateful for whatever you have received.”

***If you are inside the house, the doors don’t mean much to you. You don’t need the door to be closed or open when you are already inside the house or inside the room. When you are not inside the room, you need the door to be opened. Jesus said “You have burnt enough in the sun, in the heat. You have roamed all over the place. Just come inside; this room is ready for you”. This is the confidence that a master gives you.

Many people pray and feel their prayers are not answered. Why? Because you don’t meditate. It’s like a cell phone with no sim card. You can keep dialing, but you cannot get through. We need to do some work for society, so that our battery keeps getting charged. For better range, you need meditation and sadhana (spiritual practices). For a sim card, you need to be on the path.

The master is presence. The world is relativity and relativity has its limitations. Presence is unlimited.  Presence is vast, infinite and comprehensive – all inclusive. And the presence of the master in one’s life will bring fulfilment to all relations. Every relationship will become complete with the presence of Infinity if the master is in your life.

There is a crowd – a zoo – in the mind! Creatures of all natures are present in the human mind – that is the crowd! The whole purpose of our being here is to merge the different natures and tendencies in the mind into one “hollow and empty!”
