The path: participation of a 100 million people globally.
The way: Stand Up against poverty for two minutes between October 17-19, 2008 and show a commitment towards achieving a poverty-free society.
Take Action by planting trees between now to October 16, 2008 and ensure the realization of the 7th Millennium Development Goal.
100 MILLION PEOPLE, 100 MILLION TREES
This is the vision of the Art of Living, the Sri Sri Institute for Agricultural Sciences, the United Nations Millennium Campaign and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which is working in partnership to achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), conceived by 189 country heads in September 2000, these goals envision a safer, more prosperous and equitable world for all by 2015.
The campaign follows on the record breaking success of last years Stand Up and Speak out initiative. A staggering 43.7 million people spread over 127 countries stood up within 24 hours and took a pledge to end extreme poverty. This year rather than just speaking out , The Art of Living Foundation – which on its own contributed 6.5 million to the UN’S Stand Up and Speak Out campaign – has decided to take action to support environmental sustainability. Mission Green Earth is this campaign, the 7th Millennium Development Goal (MDG).
To be counted and acknowledged in UN records, one needs to Take Action (that is plantation or a commitment for the same, before 16 October then stand Up between 17 – 19 October and complete the action of tree plantation (if not done before 16th October but had only committed) before July 2009. All reports need to come to us in the standard annexure both for plantation and stand up, in the MGESUTA08 Pack attached.

Why should we plant trees? “Pledging climatic change through tree planting “
- We will ensure that our children have Oxygen in future
- Trees balance out the negative effects of global warming as trees are the best sponges of carbon dioxide
- Trees bring more water (rain), so we will be ensuring we will have water for our future generations
- Many immune system diseases are on the increase, due to lack of iodine in ground water, more rain equals possibility of capturing rain water to drink (Higher levels of iodine)
- Trees will bring the balance to the environment, abundance will flow as we have so much of natural resources, children will have fruit to eat, as the environment becomes more balanced, the birds will come back. When nature is in balance and harmony, we will become more happy, conflicts will cease
Mission Green Earth – Hong Kong Chapter
In partnership with The Conservancy Association, tree saplings will be planted near the Dongjiang water catchment basin in Guangdong. Dongjiang water is the main freshwater supply to Hong Kong. It is the last remaining unpolluted natural water catchments basin in the country.
The planting will take place in Spring 2009 to ensure the most appropriate conditions for the survival of the young sapling and a 3-year upkeep to nurture its growth.
UN Millennium Campaign – STAND UP TAKE ACTION 17/18/19 Oct 08
Now that the Action of planting trees has been taken we need to involve 300 or more people in a STAND UP event on Fri 17/18/19 Oct 08.
Most companies will Stand Up on Fri 17 Oct 08; but are also welcome to do an event on 18 / 19 Oct 08

STAND UP and Be Counted…raising awareness for Millennium Development Goals and Making Poverty History , make a big noise about your event .. Invite celebrities.

You will need to organize a banner, we can send you a soft copy, you can add your company logo to this. The banner should be in the recorded picture for the event to be counted by the United Nations

Record event with digital /cell phone camera, report your event on report form, send with pictures to mgesuta08hk@gmail.com latest by 19 Oct 08, 5 pm for it to be logged with the UN, to be counted.
It is the collective responsibility of humanity to drive away poverty and this calls for a united effort in this direction. A joint effort by UN Millennium campaign and Art of Living Foundation will see 100 million people Stand Up in support of and raising awareness to the Millennium Development Goals AND 100 million trees planted globally.
This is to remind world leaders of their promise of achieving the MDGs by 2015.
Your voice / pledge will contribute to eradicating poverty and achieving a peaceful world in a sustainable environment.
It will all just be a dream if you don’t stand up and participate. We all have to join together to eradicate poverty, to bring primary education, health, hygiene, care for the environment, and make this world a more beautiful place to be”
